For the most part, what I create in
the studio is just for the fun of it.
Many of my collage and assemblage works have a story telling element
and are meant to be read. Their messages
may be mundane, inane, didactic, or (hopefully) occasionally profound. Some of my work has the air of social
commentary, so the titles might give the viewers a hint as to how I see the
world, but they are free to bring their own story. My heroes of the art world are the
Pop Artists of the 50’s and 60’s, primarily Jim Dine, Wayne Thiebaud, and Claes Oldenburg;
and all the brilliant political cartoonists I’ve read for the last half
century. They taught me that art can
be socially relevant and still be fun. |
